On January 18, 2013, while on vacation in Freeport, Bahamas. A lifelong resident of Alexandria, VA, he was active with the Boy Scouts of America.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Phyllis Darrough; children, Mary Boden and Andrew Darrough; brother, Kirk Darrough; sister, Rebecca Cordell; two nieces and one nephew.
