Steve Kobasher, 90, of Lorain, Ohio, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2010 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph following a brief illness. He was born in Akron, Ohio December 22, 1919.
Steve lived in Wheeling, West Virginia, moved to Lorain in 1926, and graduated from Clearview High School in 1938. He worked at the National Tube from 1939 to March 1942. From March 1942 to November 1945, he served in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Midland, Texas and was an airplane mechanic, Rank Sgt. In March 1982, he retired from the U.S. Steel #4 Seamless Pipe Mill Hot End. He enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians, Browns, and Cavaliers and being with his wife and her family.
Mr. Kobasher is survived by his wife of 27 years, Marlene (Yingling-Oyler), daughter Janice of Charleston, West Virginia; step-daughters Cynthia Hill (David) of Elyria, Gail Leos (Ricardo) of Elyria, Darlene Hamrick (Kenneth) of Elyria, Karen Leichty Ott (Raymond) of Berlin Heights; 2 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren;13 step-grandchildren, 22 step-great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-step-grandson; brother Pete of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Eva (nee Gebuza) Kobasher; brothers Paul, Joseph, and Father Alexander; sister Mylana Archer; his first wife Irene Spence; children Linda Sue, Michael, Robert, Kenneth who all died of Cystic Fibrosis and a stillborn child.
Funeral service will be at noon Thursday, February 11 in the Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 7-9pm. The Parastas service will begin at 8pm. www.buschfuneral.com
