Richard D. "Dick" Posekany, age 82, resident of Mansfield and former Shelby resident died Friday January 11, 2013 at his home.
Born September 17, 1930 in Shelby to Edward and Orthella (Arter) Posekany he was a Shelby resident the majority of life moving to Mansfield in 2008. He was employed for many years with the City of Shelby as superintendent of the Street Department. He then took employment with the Shelby School System as a bus mechanic and was a self employed excavator. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean Conflict.
Dick was a hardworking, all around handyman, who could fix anything and was always available to help others.
Survivors include his wife, Patty (Gross) Posekany, whom he wed June 24, 1955; two daughters, Christy (Alan) Sommer of Charlotte, N.C. and Laura (Mike) Willacker of Shelby; three grandchildren, Adrienne (David) Murphy, Chad and Dana Sommer; one brother, Robert (Loretta) Posekany of Mansfield; one sister, Shirley (Bruce) Gardner of New Haven, Indiana; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Lou Amert.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday January 15, 2013 from the First Church of God, 1756 Park Ave. W. in Mansfield. Reverend Jeff Gray will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorials may be made to the First Church of God building fund.
