MINNIE SUZANNE ROTH KERNS, age 92 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Saturday evening, November 10, 2012 at the Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown, WV.
She was born Tuesday, May 11, 1920 at Johnstown, PA a daughter of the late Mr. Roth and Rose Myeski Roth. On September 27, 1946 at Elkins, WV she was married to Grover Glendon Kerns, Sr., who preceded her in death February 13, 1977. Surviving are one son, Grover Glendon Kerns, Jr., and wife Katie, Elkins two grandsons, Rob Kerns and wife Lisa, Elkins; Zach Kerns and wife Tina, Morgantown; and four great great grandchildren, Danielle; Dylan, Garrett and Thea.
Preceding her in death are two brothers, Carl and Merle Roth.
Minnie was a graduate of Johnstown High School at Johnstown, PA and Nursing School at Johnstown, PA and served as a First Lieutenant in the U. S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. After her service, she continued her nursing career at Davis Memorial Hospital, where she worked for over thirty years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Circle # 5 of the church.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Tuesday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 1 PM. The Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley and the Rev. Barry R. Moll will officiate and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins, WV, where the H. W. Daniel's Post # 29, American Legion, the Tygart's Valley Post # 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the West Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard will conduct full military rites.
