Matthew James Watson, 36, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2013 at his home. He was born on October 15, 1976 in Burlington, IA to Ronald & Patricia "Pam" McChesney Watson. He graduated from Fort Madison High School in 1995, where he was active in athletics & show choir. He was a 3 year varsity letter winner in football, all district team member and a tiger award member. He attended Western Illinois University where he studied history and anthropology and was an active member of the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. He was a quality assurance/control technician at Siemens. He also worked for 9 years as an engineer on the Santa Fe Railroad. He was an avid gamer and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and all things having to do with wildlife and history. He loved Iowa Hawkeye Football, science fiction movies and books.
Matt is survived by: his parents: Ron & Pam Watson of Fort Madison, IA; 2-brothers: Michael Watson of Bloomington, IL & Chad (Shannon) Watson of Ankeny, IA; 2-nephews: Mo & Max Watson of Ankeny, IA and his grandparents: Jim & Sadie Mitchell of Fort Madison, IA. He was preceded in death by: his great grandmother: Scundra Rashid, great grandfather: Idol Rashid, grandparents: Maurice "Mo" & Mary Watson.
Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2013 with the family to meet with friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Mark P. Spring officiating. Burial will be held at Oakland Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Fort Madison Bloodhound Booster Club or Shriner's Childrens Hospital.
