Mary Marquez, 96, was born in Los Angeles, California on June 18, 1916 and passed away in Hawaiian Gardens on January 13, 2013. She had lived her whole life in the same area and just across the street from Dozier where she lived as a young girl. Maria (known as Mary to her family), was born to Celestino Arsaga, and Teresa Terrazas Arsaga.

Up until her recent passing, Mary was married 76 years to her husband Frank and together, beginning with their children, became a 5 generation family. Mary's main purpose in life was to be married and have a family. She devoted every part of her life to her children and husband. Mary loved to read the news paper everyday, to keep abreast of what was happening around the world, as well as her local area.

Mary also loved when her family would visit her and each time she would insist that she send you off with food to feed your family.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 9:00am at Our Lady of Soledad Church, 4561 E. Cesar E. Chavez, East Los Angeles, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00am. Interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery.

Mrs. Marquez is survived by her loving husband Ernest Frank Marquez of Los Angeles, sons Ernest Marquez Jr. and Frank Marquez both of Montebello, daughters, Julia Garcia of Pico Rivera, Gloria Gomez of Montebello, and Marylou Avila of Lake Elsinore. Mary also leaves behind 31 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and several great, great grandchildren.

A Poem for Grandma from Grandson Michael Gomez

The legend of our history chapter
Now I know you're smiling down
From the here after
With daughter in hand
Loved one's at your feet
You've reached the gates of heaven
For the opportunity to meet
Today is your day
To roam the heaven's where the angels play
A day in which your heart can rest
So your soul may rise
Today is the day we bid you farewell
As we say our goodbye's for now
Till we reunite
You leave us a story of love a century of memories
Forever Grandma Mary you will remain in our hearts
