Her strength will live on forever, if not in form then in the hearts she touched.

Karen was born on March 15, 1955 in Miami Beach, FL to Roslyn and Irwin Schwartz. Her family moved to Coral Gables in 1962 where she was raised with her sister Ellen. When she was 17 she moved to Mill Valley, CA with her family and graduated from Tamalpais High School in 1973. After high school Karen pursued many interests, including film, which brought her to the College of Marin where she met Duncan. Karen and Duncan wed on 7-10-1977 and had two daughters Erin and Meagan and two grandchildren Isla and Elyas.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Karen's name to UCSF Breast Care Center.
