Joseph Maffeo, 58, of Vandergrift, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at home.
Born April 7, 1954 in Tarentum, he was the son of the late Joseph & Edith L. (DelVecchio) Maffeo.
Joseph lived in Vandergrift all of his life, and was a 1972 graduate of Kiski Area High School, and 1976 graduate of Edinboro University.
He worked for Cauley Security as a guard, and was a member of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, the VFW Post #214, and the YMCA, all in Vandergrift.
Joseph enjoyed watching sports, and supporting the Pittsburgh teams. He liked swimming, and spending time with his family, especially his nephew and niece. Joseph always had a smile and a kind word for everyone he met.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by a sister: Jackie Maffeo in 1966.
He is survived by his sister: Carol A. (Richard) Freedline of Pittsburgh, nephew Neil (Natalie) Freedline of Pittsburgh, and a niece, Megan Freedline, of Pittsburgh.
At Joseph's request, there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial takes place Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, 303 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift. Father James Loew, O.S.B., celebrant. Interment in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Vandergrift.
