Ira Dell Sanders Poe, 90, of 1119 Pender Street was granted her angel wings on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, surrounded by family at her home. A retired CNA, she spent most of her 35 years at both Dorothea Dix Hospital and Wake Medical Center, simultaneously. In addition, she was a licensed cosmetologist, owning and operating Courtney's Beauty Nook for many years. A member of Martin Street Baptist Church, she received her induction in the 50+ Membership Circle in 1992. There she served diligently on several ministries, with the Music Ministry being her favorite. She was a member of Delta Chi Eta Chapter of Alpha Chi Pi Omega Sorority and Fraternity.

Mrs. Poe was born on December 6, 1921, in Johnson County to the late Isaiah and Corinna Ennis Sanders. She married Samuel David Poe, who preceded her in death. To this union one child was born. Later in life she met Leodis Bright, who was a very special part of her life for many years.

Ira Dell leaves many to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy, including a loving daughter, Paulette P. Mack (Bennie); granddaughter, Courtney M. Telfaire (Darius); grandsons, Cameron T. Mack (Sherine) and Bennie A."Trae" Mack III; grandchildren, Trinity A. Mack, MacKenzie, Madison, MacKenna and Chandler Telfaire, Trysten and Dawson Mack; sisters, Virginia S. Richardson of Riverdale, Ga.; and Lillian Verdell Owens of Raleigh; and first, second and third generation nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Martin Street Baptist Church 1001 East Martin Street Raleigh, NC 27601. The visitation will begin at 11:00 AM and the service follows at 12 Noon.

A viewing will be on Thursday at Sanders Funeral Home in Smithfield from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM.
