Daniel H. Welko, age 85, of Lorain, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Specialty Hospital of Lorain following a brief illness.
Born on June 10, 1927 in Baxter, West Virginia, Daniel graduated from Rivesville High School in 1945. For two years, he attended Fairmont State in West Virginia.
He served in the US Navy Air Corp. Daniel was most proud of piloting his F4U cosair on an aircraft carrier.
Daniel worked at Ford Motor Company in the Sandusky Plant as a quality control inspector for 30 years, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 8 in Wellington and had been active years ago in the Boy Scout Program with his sons when they were scouts.
He thoroughly enjoyed fishing, especially going on Canadian fishing trips with his sons. One of his other passions was traveling with his wife to far away destinations such as Alaska, Aruba and Spain.
Daniel is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mildred (nee Toothman); his sons, Dr. Jeff (Linda), of Stow, Scott, and Daniel L., both of Lorain; and 3 grandchildren, Ashleigh, Nicholas and David.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wasel and Mary (nee Ripper) Welko.
The Welko Family will receive friends on Thursday, November 15th from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral center. Chaplain Sandie King of Mercy Hospital will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park. Full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 8 of Wellington.
