Catherine J. Eckhart (nee Wolff), 89, of Elyria passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012 at the Wesleyan Village following a lengthy illness. She was born December 2, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Catherine attended schools in Lakewood and Medina. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Elyria. She was active in local and state levels with Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Military Order of Cooties Auxiliary.
In VFW Post #1079 of Elyria, she went through Auxiliary Chairs and was President and then Treasurer for 13 years; she went through Lorain County Council (VFW) and District #9, Past President of both; was Treasurer and President of M.O.C.A. #45 Local Auxiliary President in North Ridgeville; went through Chairs and was past State President of Military Orders of Cooties Auxiliary. Also in VFW, State of Ohio, was State Rehabilitation Chairman and State Safety Chairman, receiving national awards for two years. Also served as Safety Chairman VFW Post #1079 Auxiliary for 18 years, was Secretary of Lorain County Traffic Safety Council over 20 years, and Secretary-Treasurer for Elyria Memorial Day Committee for 20 years.
Catherine enjoyed bowling and was past President of Gutter Gals League, supermodified racing and camping while her husband owned (SM) car. She relaxed with reading, knitting and crocheting, making many afghans during her lifetime.
Mrs. Eckhart is survived by her daughters Linda Cseak (Arthur) of Brentwood, CA and Kimberly Lauck (Alan) of Elyria; sons Richard Eckhart of Elyria, Jeffery Eckhart (Linda) of Amherst and Dale Eckhart (Kathy) of Elyria; son-in-law William Wissinger of Elyria; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Norman; daughter Susan Wissinger; parents William and Mary (nee Milner) Wolff; sisters Pauline Kelley and Audrey Moorman; brother Raymond Barton.
Friends may call 4-8pm Wednesday, December 12 at Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria. Funeral service will be 11am Thursday at the funeral home. Rev. Roger Talbot, Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Elmhurst Memorial Park, Avon.
