Powers, Bettye Kirby – age 86 of Knoxville, passed away Friday February 1, 2013. She was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church, Stone's River Woman's Club, Federated Woman's Club, and the Page-turner's Book club. Bettye loved reading, playing bridge, bowling, sewing, quilting, and macramé. She was the past directory chairman of the New Neighbors league club in Nashville, past president of the General Unit of the United Methodist Women, and held other positions in the UMW as well. Bettye loved to volunteer for the Red Cross and area hospitals. She enjoyed spending time with life-long friends in a monthly dinner group. Bettye loved to travel, and lived in Sudan an Alaska, and went on many travel adventures with her sisters. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years Charles H. Powers, parents Enoch McKinley and Carrie Ellen Kirby, and sister, Hazel Stevenson. Bettye is survived by her daughters, Janice Powers Miller (Chip) and Gail Powers Hammer (Alan); grandchildren, Carrie Miller, Carl Miller, Charles Miller, Allison Hammer, Laura Hammer; sisters, Wanda Henderson, Mary Rose Mueller (Delbert); brothers, William Kirby and Donald Kirby; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Manorhouse, Ben Atchley Veteran's Home, and Parkwest 4th Floor Montvue for their compassionate care. Friends and family will gather at Union Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery in Farragut for an 11 am graveside service Sat February 9th. The family will receive friends from 1 -2 pm Sat at St. Marks UMC with a service to follow at 2 pm with Rev. David Graybeal officiating.
