Buskirk Andrew Ralph Dorsey, 77, aka Pops, died Sunday, February 17, 2013 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Sally (McFarland) Dorsey.
Born Tuesday, January 28, 1936 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, he was raised by his grandparents, the late Andrew T. and Latishue Montieth Dorsey.
He joined the United States Army in 1952 and served in the Korean War where he was wounded and honorably discharged. He made his home in Florida for many years where he owned and operated Dorsey's Paint and Body shop.
On November 17, 1974, he married Sally. They moved to Buskirk in the early 1980's and have loved living there.
Ralph loved working in his garage, mowing his lawn, spending time with his family and taking care of his Huskies. Benson's was his favorite eating spot.
Along with his wife of 38 years, he is survived by two sons, Harry L. Hurt, Jr., aka Smiley and wife Melisa Walsh and Lester V. Hurt, aka Rebel, all of Buskirk. He was the proud grandfather of five, Samantha Reeves, Kiley Berisha, Michael Walsh, Ronnie Hurt and Paris Adriance-Hurt and great-grandfather of three, Colton and Kyla Reeves and Odette Berisha. He leaves behind a sister-in-law and four brothers-in-laws and their families, who reside in Florida. He also leaves behind close family friends, George Palmer, Hugh and Lori Amiroso, Robert Caudill and Mike and JoAnne Brownell.
Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 AM at Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main Street, Cambridge, NY. At 5:00 PM military honors will be presented by the United States Army.
For those wishing to remember Ralph in a special way, the family suggests donations in his name be made to the Vermont Veteran's Home, 325 North Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
