Richard "Kess" Kessler, age 89 of Kirtland Hills, passed away March 8, 2018 at the David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland. He was born October 11, 1928 in Cincinnati, OH.

Richard graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor's in Education; he played football there and was coached by Woody Hayes, and was a member Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving as a 2nd Lt in preparation for the Korean War.

Richard had worked for over 30 years in banking, having worked for Central National Bank, Lake County Nat'l Bank, in Cleveland and Lake County. Served on the Boards of Lakeland Community College, YMCA Painesville, Farmers and Savings Bank, Leadership Lake County and community service with United Way, NAACP and Kiwanis.

He retired to play golf, take an annual visit to his beloved Adirondacks, and spend winters on Marco Island Florida with Johann and their many friends and to volunteer at Holden Arboretum looking after the blue birds. Richard was proud of his country and dedicated to his community, serving both with integrity.

He loved his friends, many of whom he had for over 75 years, and they still laughed at the same jokes for all those years. May we all take a page from that book.
