Margaret Lewis Hodge King

Margaret Hodge King passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Autumn Care Nursing Home in Forest City, NC after an extended illness.

Margaret was born on December 12, 1925 in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Hubert and Josephine Hodge. Margaret attended the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, graduating in 1950 with a masters degree in Music. She began her career in Albemarle, NC attending the First Baptist Church where she directed the church choir, singing solo parts with her beautiful soprano voice. Over the years she and her family lived in various locations within the US. In the late 1970's Margaret moved back to Boiling Springs, NC where she worked in the Music department at Gardner Webb University. She retired from Gardner Webb and moved back to Rutherfordton where she attended the First Baptist Church.

Margaret was known for her love of God, deep concern for others and her beautiful voice. She loved animals and had many special pets throughout her lifetime. She will be remembered for her kindness and concern for others.

Margaret is survived by her son Martin Rush King, "Marty" and his wife Pam, of King's Mountain. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Stacy King Albea, (Chris), her daughter Zoey and son Landon, Matthew Stephen King, Kassey Marie Beam, and Savannah Cheyenne Snelgrove. Margaret is also survived by her sister, Ruth Hodge Craven of Pittsboro, NC. She is preceded in death by her sister Betty Jo Hodge in 1930.

The service to honor Margaret's life will be held at the First Baptist Church, 246 N. Main Street, Rutherfordton, NC on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 2:00 P. M. with Rev. Tim Marsh and Rev. Dean Baughn officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall after the service. Interment will be private in the Joseph Martin Hodge family plot at Rutherfordton City Cemetery. Guest register at www.mcmahansfuneralhome.com.
