Memories & Candles
To the Kassis Family,
I fondly remember many many trips to the shoe store with my mother and my grandmother when I was a young child. Mr. Kassis had an inexplicable manner of connecting with young children in a very kind, patient, and gentle way. He was a person who did a great service to the community and I will always remember the store as one of the bright spots in King Street's history. I am joined by my family

Dear Mrs. Kassis, Danny, Sonya, Jane and all of your family,
I loved Fred. I haven't seen him in years but the image that comes to mind whenever I think of him is that great wide smile and joking, inviting personality of his. I treasure the memories of jousting and joking with Fred at the BE gym. He always made me feel like a friend. I don't think any of us will forget "the card" from years ago. I can still

Dear Kassis Family,
We were so sorry to learn of Fred's passing. He was a fine gentleman, good friend and neighbor. We have missed seeing him the past several years. We loved hearing his stories especially how he courted Joanne. We enjoyed playing dominoes with him (he always had to win). He was so proud of his family and it was our privilege getting to know each of you when you were in Boone. He adored his grandchildren. He was a fine man indeed.
We are keeping each of you in our thoughts and prayers.

Danny and extended family, I am very sorry to hear about your Dad passing away.. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I am so sorry I can't attend some of the services, but as you are well aware, that is impossible right now. I will continue to pray for your family.

Just wanted the family to know that we are sorry for your loss and
will keep you in our hearts and prayers in the coming days. Mr. Kassis
was a wonderful man. We knew him from the downtown Charleston
store when our children were needing shoes that fit well. My husband
and I also needed him later on when we needed his help once again in
getting comfortable shoes. He saved us from having surgery.
We will always be grateful to this wonderful man. Thank you, Mr.
Kassis, for being there for our family.

Happened to be in Charleston on business yesterday, and with some time to kill before the airport, was running some errands near the store. Something I can't explain inspired me yesterday morning, 40+ years after I moved away from Charleston, to stop in, ask after Mr. Kassis, and explain to the gentleman running the store how nice he always was to me (he always seemed to know when I'd been out of school for asthma-related hospitalizations). It was then that
