I hope that Karen's family is doing well. I knew Karen from Indian Valley College. She was my Professor and a helpful friend. She told me about her daughter being ill at one time but nothing about herself. I was sorry to hear that she made the transition to the world above. I had some really good times in her classrooms and learned a lot from her. The world will miss her. ...Annie

Dear Duncan, Meagan , Erin and Rosalyn

I think about you and Karen everyday. Sometimes I feel like laughing out loud because I hear her voice and remember something funny and clever she said or I feel like crying because I miss her so much. She added so much joy to our lives. I feel so lucky and blessed to have known her.

Love you all

I have the fondest memories of working with Karen. She always carried such enthusiasm for her work and it was contagious. I was so lucky to have worked with her on several projects. I regret that many years had passed and we had not spoken at length. I knew her as a loving mother, wife and friend. She taught me so much about loyalty, courage and strength and I will carry those lessons with me. I'm sending you all so many prayers, love and hugs. xoxo Julie

Duncan, Meagan, Cub and Erin,
I value Karen's courage, strength and determination to live life to its fullest. I cherish our Christmas Eve gatherings, family dinners and of course the amazing wedding. My life is better because I crossed paths with such a caring woman who recognized the importance of life and fighting to the very end. Jason lost his mother at 23 yrs old to cancer and over the two decades we feel her presence and gentle reminders that she watches over us. I have no doubt you will always feel her love.
Much love to you all!

Dear Duncan,

I'm so sorry to hear about Karen passing.
Karen was my teacher. She was truly an inspiration, and taught me all I know about video.
Because of Karen, I was able to teach classes at CoM and continue into a successful career
where I had many wonderful experiences with so many enjoyable people.
Karen was also a friend, one I could really talk and open up to.
So much time has passed since I last saw her, but she will always be in

I first met Karen as the bright kid up the block from Judy Gartman's in Mill Valley; later Karen was Judy's right hand who kept the film program vibrant. Karen was my colleague, and decades later my teacher at IVC in Final Cut Pro. Karen was a GREAT teacher, an expert editor, who accepted learners at exactly the level of skill and motivation she found them. But she gave students all the possibilities and inspiration they could take. What a

To The Sutherland Family -

Your beautiful wife and loving mother will be missed by many. She was a role model for all the kids while they were growing up and they all thought so much of her. Karen is at peace now and for that we should all be thankful. My sincere condolences to all of you at this very difficult time.

I was so sorry to hear of Karen's passing. Over the years Karen would come breezing through my office at COM every once in a while bringing her big smile and upbeat personality. We would always spend some time catching up on our kids and life and connecting. She was the type of person you could share things with and always feel supported. I know she'll be missed by many. Sending my deep condolences to Duncan and the family.
