Grapevine, Texas, formerly of Rock Island and Bettendorf

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph M. Gadient, 54, a resident of Grapevine, Texas, formerly of Rock Island and Bettendorf, will be on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 – 18th Street, Bettendorf. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 12, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the church. Inurnment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport, in the Columbarium. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport, is assisting the family with arrangements. Joe died unexpectedly on Friday, August 31, 2012 at his home in Texas. A memorial service was held for him at Good Shepherd Catholic Community Church in Colleyville, Texas on September 7, 2012.
Joseph Michael Gadient was born on November 11, 1957 in Davenport, a son of Tom and Darlene "Porky" (Lind) Gadient. He graduated from Bettendorf High School and earned his CDL at Scott County Community College. He loved his job as a driver at Con-Way Freight in Rock Island.
An avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, Joe loved being around people. He was happy, generous and always tried to make people feel good. He often greeted others with his jovial phrase, "Hello, my friend!", and strangers soon became his friend. Talking on the phone to as many friends as possible was a daily goal for Joe and he enjoyed every moment he spent with his friends and family. Joe's lifetime of hard work, dedication and loyalty serves as an inspiration to his family and he is greatly missed.
Memorials may be made to St. John Vianney Catholic Church or to a charity of your choice.
Joe is survived by his sons, Heith (Danielle) Gadient, Grapevine, TX and Brett Gadient, Austin, Texas; his parents, Tom and Porky Gadient of Bettendorf, his brother, Mark (Beverly) Gadient of Dallas, TX, his sister, Sue (Dan) Cullen of Omaha, NE and his sister, Sally (Mike) Kent of Austin, TX.

My memories of Joe are mostly as a kid growing up in the house next to his. I was a little girl and Joe was the cool "older guy" next door. He had a laid back attitude and was always friendly. Joe's smile was absolutely gorgeous! When he laughed, his whole face lit up...and you knew he really loved a good joke. I think Joe is permanently imprinted in my brain as a 26 year old cool dude.
